A humanitarian convoy consisting of 25 buses, ambulances, and other vehicles is staged in Armyansk for a mission to the Ukrainian city of Oleshky. Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian ombudsman and chief negotiator, confirmed the setup earlier this week. He stated the goal is to ensure aid reaches every person who needs it, with special attention paid to the elderly and people with disabilities.
Armyansk is located in Russian-occupied southern Ukraine. It sits approximately 85 kilometers, or 53 miles, south of Oleshky. The aid mission is scheduled to take place later on Friday, October 30. Lubinets said the team is bringing humanitarian aid directly to the local residents of the stricken city.
U.S. First Lady Melania Trump brokered the localized ceasefire and the aid mission. She led talks between Lubinets and Yana Lantratova, his Russian counterpart. Oleshky is just inside Russian-occupied territory in the southern Kherson region. The city gained global attention after heavy fighting and mined roads left residents stranded without food or medicine.
Moscow and Kyiv have observed the truce in and around the city since Tuesday. Both sides remain fully engaged in the wider war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago. Previous ceasefire talks in the region have failed or resulted in truces that quickly fell apart. The current arrangement allows for this specific humanitarian operation to proceed.
