The first frost of the 2026 season is expected to settle across Alabama on Sunday and Monday mornings.
Meteorologists at WBRC declared First Alert Weather Days for the event, noting that low temperatures will reach the upper 30s in far northern areas. Most locations will see readings in the 40s by Saturday morning. Saturday mornings will remain relatively mild, but conditions will shift sharply on Sunday when lows drop to the low or mid-30s. Near-freezing temperatures are possible in outlying northern zones. Residents are advised to take protective measures for sensitive plants and check on pets as the coldest mornings of the season arrive.
The weather pattern for the rest of the weekend favors clear skies and warmer afternoons. Highs are projected to stay in the 60s on both Saturday and Sunday. A north wind blowing at 5 to 15 mph on Saturday will create wind chill, making conditions feel cooler than the actual air temperature. Fall foliage colors are currently peaking across the state, with peak levels expected to persist for the next two weeks.
The week ahead begins with dry conditions as the regional drought continues. A southern-stream weather system may introduce scattered showers late Tuesday and Tuesday night. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies are forecast through Veterans Day. That day will feature a cold start in the 40s and highs near 70 degrees.
A second cold front is scheduled to arrive by next Friday, bringing another substantial temperature drop. While precipitation chances remain low, data indicates a 20 percent probability of showers in far northern Alabama. The higher elevations of the Smoky Mountains may experience a few snow showers. The weekend of November 14 will feature dry weather and colder conditions, with highs in the 60s and further frost occurrences.
WBRC is tracking these atmospheric changes and has updated its digital platforms for real-time data. The First Alert Weather app is available for Android and Apple devices. Free streaming options for weather coverage are accessible on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
