Gunfire erupted at an apartment complex in Hialeah, Florida, late Thursday night, sending multiple residents to a trauma center. Police swarmed the neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. after reports of shots fired on 22nd Court and 60th Street. While surveillance video captured the initial burst of gunfire, authorities have not yet released a detailed account of the events or identified the individuals involved.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene that followed the shooting. Kelly Moregon, a resident, stated that she heard the gunfire followed immediately by the arrival of police cars and helicopters. She said she moved her daughter to her mother's room, which is the farthest from the potential threat, to ensure safety. Another resident, who lives in the same building as the victims, observed men exiting the complex with visible blood. After asking a police officer for confirmation, he said officers told him a couple of people had been shot. He later heard helicopters lift off, noting that the victims were taken to Jackson Trauma Center.
Eyewitnesses provided conflicting but complementary details about the cause of the dispute. A woman speaking in Spanish told reporters that a party was held in a corner unit on Thursday night, followed by an argument between two people. The woman who lives in that specific unit confirmed her husband was shot but stated he was expected to survive. She described the proximity of the incident to living spaces, noting that bullets were flying near her son.
First responders were seen loading a person into a medical helicopter for air transport to a hospital. As of Friday, police had not confirmed whether they were searching for one or multiple gunmen. The number of people injured and their current conditions remain unverified by officials, leaving the full scope of the incident unclear.
