New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is out of action after a hospital stay for unexplained neurological symptoms. Henderson posted a statement to Instagram on Friday to explain the medical emergency. He described the event as unexpected and unusual. The symptoms required him to be hospitalized for several days. Extensive testing took place during that time.
Henderson said the test results were positive and reassuring. However, the medical team could not determine the cause. He noted that the condition has impacted his strength, coordination, and physical functions. A source close to Henderson told The Boston Globe that he did not suffer a stroke. The 24-year-old is now working with specialists and physical therapists on a recovery plan. He stated that his health is his top priority.
Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the situation during a media session. Vrabel said the team is focused on keeping Henderson comfortable and supporting his recovery. He declined to place Henderson on the non-football injury list immediately. The coach said he could not put a timeline on when the running back would return. He added that the team will focus on preparing for the upcoming game against the Packers.
The Patriots ruled Henderson out for Sunday's match. Wide receiver Brown was also ruled out with an ankle and knee issue. Seven other players were listed as questionable. Those players include cornerback Carlton Davis, tight end Hunter Henry, and wide receiver Mack Hollins. The team will rely on Rhamondre Stevenson, Cory Kiner, and Lan Larison in the backfield on Sunday.
Kiner spoke about the impact of losing Henderson. He called Henderson a pivotal piece of the team. Kiner said he is there to support his teammate. Henderson has a history with head trauma. He acknowledged suffering a concussion late in the 2021 college season. He said he played through that injury while dealing with side effects.
Henderson did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday this week. He was listed on the injury report with an illness. He was first listed with an illness on Oct. 29. That caused him to miss the game in Miami. He is in his second season with the Patriots.
The former second-round pick out of Ohio State has had a diminished role this year. He has 203 yards on 52 carries. He has one rushing touchdown. He has five catches for 45 yards. His last game was against the Bears on Oct. 22. In that game, he had three carries for nine yards.
