Residents of tribal communities in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota have seen a surge in federal enforcement activity following a six-month investigation. The Minneapolis FBI Field Offices announced the findings of Operation Steadfast Promise on Thursday, detailing 168 arrests and 65 criminal cases filed across the three states.

The initiative, which ran from April through September, focused on disrupting organized crime networks and addressing violent offenses. Agents specifically targeted gangs and cartels involved in drug trafficking and other violent crimes within tribal jurisdictions.

A core component of the operation involved protecting minors. Federal authorities identified 28 child victims during the investigation. They also located or recovered 36 children on tribal lands throughout the three states.

Local Special Agent Christopher Dotson described the findings as a starting point for ongoing work to bring justice to victims and their families. He emphasized the impact of these crimes on the broader tribal communities.

Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen stated that his office will continue collaborating with tribal, local, and federal partners. Rosen said that protecting vulnerable children and holding offenders accountable for violent and heinous offenses remains his office's highest priority.

The announcement marked the conclusion of the active phase of Operation Steadfast Promise, with the 168 arrests and 65 cases serving as the primary outcome of the joint federal effort.
