A solid stretch of dry, seasonable weather is set to take hold in South Carolina. The active pattern that has dominated recent days has ended, leaving clear skies and cooler temperatures through the weekend and into next week.

The transition arrives quickly this evening. A cold front is pushing east, bringing wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph across the mountains. Temperatures are dropping fast as cold air filters in. Residents in the Upstate should expect overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. The mountains will be colder, with lows in the low 40s.

Weekend conditions will feature sunshine and crisp air. Winds in the mountains will remain brisk Saturday morning, peaking at 20 mph, before calming down. High temperatures will be lower than recent days. The Upstate will see highs in the upper 60s, while the mountains will range from the upper 50s to the low 60s. Saturday night will see lows in the mid 40s for the Upstate and the low to mid 30s for the mountains.

Sunday will bring similar conditions. Highs will reach the upper 60s in the Upstate and the mid 60s in the mountains. Sunday night lows will settle into the mid 40s in the Upstate and the low to mid 30s in the mountains. Residents are advised to keep coats handy for the chilly mornings.

Next week marks a shift toward milder fall weather. Highs will climb slowly, reaching the low 70s in the Upstate and 68 to the low 70s in the mountains on Monday and Tuesday. This places temperatures about 5 degrees above normal for early November. Overnight lows will stay in the 30s and 40s.

A slight cooldown arrives for Veterans Day on Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will settle in the upper 60s to low 70s in the Upstate and the low to mid 60s in the mountains. The mix of cool mornings and mild afternoons will require layered clothing.

A larger cool down is on the horizon for next weekend. The current dry spell will provide a break from the recent weather volatility, but colder air is expected to return later in the week.
