Lost Cabin Beer Co. and the Suzie Cappa Art Center are combining a new beer release with a silent auction to raise funds for local artists. The collaboration centers on Exhibit 25, a Czech-style pilsner that marks the 25th anniversary of the art center.
The release party and artist reception are scheduled for Nov. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. at the brewery’s Rapid City taproom. Doors open at 11 a.m. at 1401 W. Omaha St., Suite 3. The event also launches a month-long auction featuring 30 pieces created by artists associated with the center.
The Suzie Cappa Art Center is part of Black Hills Works, a Rapid City nonprofit founded in 1958 that supports adults with disabilities. The center, located at 722 St. Joseph St., opened in 2001 and currently houses 28 artists. The number 25 in the beer’s name honors the organization’s anniversary.
Brewers and artists worked together during a brew day in early October. The art center team suggested a pilsner, leading the brewers to select a Czech-style recipe. Artists then created a collage of their own work to serve as the label for the 16-ounce cans. The group returned to the brewery earlier this week for canning day.
Jesse Scheitler, co-founder and CEO of Lost Cabin Beer Co., noted that the label is one of the best-looking cans the company has produced. “Our crew is still talking about brew day with these artists,” Scheitler said. “We’re proud to pour this beer, and even prouder to have their work on our walls all month.”
Haley Friedt, gallery director at the Suzie Cappa Art Center, described the process as an inclusive experience. “From brew day to canning day, and everything in between, everyone has had a blast,” Friedt said. “We cannot wait to share the end result with the community.”
Exhibit 25 has an alcohol content of 5.4% and is available exclusively at the Rapid City taproom. It is sold on draft and in 16-ounce four-packs while supplies last. Auction bidding occurs via sheets placed next to each artwork through Nov. 28. Final bids close at 4 p.m. on that day, with pickup scheduled for Nov. 29. Proceeds are split so that 40% goes directly to the artists and 60% returns to the center for art supplies, events, and exhibition applications.
