West Hartford Community Theater is staging a musical comedy based on the famous Addams Family characters for two consecutive weekends this month. The production runs from Nov. 6 to 8 and again from Nov. 13 to 15. All performances take place at Duffy Elementary School, located at 55 Westminster Drive.
The show is based on characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams. The musical follows Wednesday Addams, who has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a typical family. When Wednesday tells her father, Gomez, about the relationship, she asks him to keep it secret from her mother, Morticia.
Gomez finds himself in an uncomfortable position as he tries to balance his daughter’s wishes with his devotion to his wife. The situation grows more complicated when Wednesday invites her boyfriend and his parents to dinner at the Addams family home. This sets the stage for an evening that brings two very different families together.
The production features musical numbers, comedy, and a cast of local actors portraying the eccentric family and the outsiders who enter their unusual world. The story explores themes of marriage, parenthood, and relationships, alongside the dark humor associated with the characters.
West Hartford Community Theater describes the show as a "celebration of the differences that make families unique." Tickets are available through the theater’s website. For performance times, ticket prices, and additional information, residents can visit westhartfordtheater.org.
