Corin Neff is fighting for his life in a Denver hospital after a massive stroke.

The 41-year-old father of three suffered the medical emergency on October 31. He was flown to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado. Doctors placed him in a medically induced coma to manage severe brain swelling.

Neff is a musician and stay-at-home parent. He homeschooled his children while his wife, Ellice, taught art at Torrington High School. The couple moved to Torrington from Colorado four years ago. Ellice Neff was named the 2026-27 Teacher of the Year for the local high school.

Scott Nadeau, Ellice’s father, explained the medical complications. He said surgeons initially removed part of Neff’s skull to allow the brain to swell. That procedure failed to stop the expansion. On Thursday, doctors determined the swelling was pressing on his brain stem.

“They will work him off the paralytic (Friday) to see the extent of the damage,” Nadeau said. He added that the sudden onset of the stroke has been overwhelming for the family.

Neff and his wife have been married for 14 years. They met when Ellice was 18. Nadeau described his son-in-law as quiet and well-liked by children. He noted that Neff could play any instrument by ear and wrote scores for small film projects. The family is currently caring for the three children, who are ages 11, 8, and 6.

Ellice Neff is at her husband’s side in the hospital. She faced a difficult choice between a procedure to remove part of his brain or the induced coma. The swelling of the brain raises questions about his survival and future abilities. Friends and churches in Arizona and Colorado have reached out for support.

The family launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of the medical flight and extended stay. Nadeau said the funds will also help with potential rehabilitation or funeral expenses. Doctors plan to adjust his medication on Friday to assess the damage to his brain stem.
