Homeowners and renters in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties can now claim up to $44,800 for housing costs and an additional $44,800 for other disaster-related needs. This financial ceiling applies to residents seeking individual assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after Hurricane Isaias caused damage to their properties.

The approval took effect on Oct. 29. It serves as a follow-up to a major disaster declaration issued by President Donald Trump on Oct. 27. The earlier declaration provided funding primarily for local governments. The new authorization expands eligibility to private households. The coverage area includes Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties plus six other counties impacted by the storm.

Applicants must submit specific financial data to process their claims. Required information includes Social Security numbers, current addresses, and bank account details for direct deposit. Applicants must also provide household income figures and insurance policies. A written description of the damage and a working phone number are also mandatory. Those without banking access can opt for a mailed check.

Submissions are accepted through DisasterAssistance.gov, the FEMA mobile application, or the agency’s helpline at 800-621-3362. Individuals who use TTY devices can dial 800-462-7585. Video relay users should contact the main line and provide their assigned number to an agent.

The agency will contact most applicants to arrange a home inspection. Following the visit, FEMA sends a decision via letter or email. Residents who receive a denial have 60 days from the date of the letter to file a written appeal. The payment structure covers temporary housing, basic repairs, and personal property losses, subject to program approval and household eligibility.

FEMA does not charge fees for applications or inspections. Agents conducting inspections carry federal photo identification. The agency advises residents to keep receipts for repairs and housing costs. Documentation should include a list of lost or damaged items. This record supports claims filed with both FEMA and private insurance companies.

During Hurricane Sally in 2020, FEMA allocated $2.9 million to 700 homeowners in Santa Rosa County. That average came to approximately $4,142 per person. The current funding pool is not yet defined, but the per-person caps remain at $44,800 for each category of assistance.
