Approximately 388 ballots sat on a memory card in Seminole County, Georgia, for days after Election Day. These uncounted votes now determine the winner of State House District 154.

A post-election check by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office revealed the discrepancy. The audit found that 388 more voters checked in at polling places than the number of ballots reported as cast. The state office notified the Seminole County Board of Elections about the gap.

The race in District 154 had been called for Democrat Harry James, who led by 58 votes. The addition of the 388 ballots changes the outcome. Incumbent Republican Gerald Greene now leads by 262 votes. The Secretary of State’s office gave the county until Monday to certify the final results.

Brad Raffensperger’s office launched an investigation into how the card was missed. The probe will examine whether required election procedures were followed and identify corrective measures for future cycles. The release stated the goal is to prevent similar incidents in subsequent elections.

The Seminole County Board of Elections did not return calls from WCTV on Friday afternoon. No spokesperson was available for comment on the discovery or the upcoming certification deadline.
