Canelo Alvarez enters the ring as the underdog by physical measures but the favorite by odds. He faces WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. The bout is available on DAZN pay-per-view. It marks Alvarez's first return as a title challenger since May 2022.

Alvarez, 39, has a professional record of 63 wins, three losses, and two draws with 39 knockouts. His only loss in the last four years came in September 2025 against Terence Crawford. That unanimous decision defeat in Las Vegas cost him the super middleweight title he had held. He now seeks to reclaim one of the belts he lost to Crawford.

Mbilli stands taller, giving up an inch in height and nearly two inches in reach to Alvarez. Despite the size disadvantage, Alvarez is favored to win the fight. DraftKings lists Alvarez at 330 to 100 odds. The odds for Mbilli to win in the first three rounds are +10,000, the longest odds for any outcome in the event.

Mbilli holds a record of 29 wins, no losses, and one draw with 24 knockouts. He won the WBC interim title in June 2025 by defeating Maciej Sulecki. He made his first defense in September 2025 with a split draw against Lester Martinez. The WBC elevated him to full champion in January after stripping Crawford of the title.

CompuBox data reveals distinct stylistic differences between the two fighters. Mbilli throws an average of 78 punches per round in his recent fights. That is 27 more than the super middleweight division average of 51. Alvarez is more economical, throwing just 35.1 punches per round. Mbilli lands 26.6 power punches per round, far exceeding the division average. Alvarez lands 8.8 power punches per round.

Both fighters land power punches at rates above the division average. Mbilli lands 46.1% of his power punches, while Alvarez lands 44.9%. The super middleweight division average is 36.1%. Alvarez has stronger defense metrics against power punches. His opponents land just 31.2% of their power punches, a sixth-best rate among champions and contenders. Mbilli's opponents land 49% of their power punches in his most recent bout.

The two fighters share zero common opponents in their careers. They have combined for 98 professional fights. Neither has been knocked down by the other in their respective careers, a statistic that reflects their high levels of activity and resilience. Alvarez turned professional at age 15 in October 2005 and won his first major title at age 20.

Alvarez has fought in 28 major title bouts, winning 25 and losing three. Mbilli has never fought for a full world title prior to this, having competed twice for interim belts. The fight represents a significant shift for Mbilli, who moves from interim status to a full title defense against a veteran contender.

Jab statistics show both fighters are below the division average for landing jabs. Mbilli lands 3.8 jabs per round from 20.3 thrown. Alvarez lands 3.5 jabs per round from 15.5 thrown. The division average for jabs landed per round is 4.2. Alvarez has a higher percentage of body punches landed, at 33.6% per 12 rounds.

The bout will take place in Riyadh, a venue that has hosted several of Alvarez's high-profile fights. The fight is scheduled for Saturday, with the preliminary card beginning earlier in the evening. Both fighters have trained extensively for this encounter, focusing on their respective strengths in power and volume.
