A former Greenville police officer will spend 100 days in jail before returning to the community under close supervision. Dominic Olivares, 30, accepted that sentence on Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The time will be served under the state’s Misdemeanant Confinement Program.
Three key terms define Olivares' punishment. First, the court imposed two consecutive suspended sentences of six to 17 months. He will avoid prison only if he completes his eight years of supervised probation without violation. Second, he is required to register as a sex offender. Third, six additional charges, including first- and second-degree counts, were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Olivares was hired by the Greenville Police Department in May 2020. A department spokeswoman stated he was fired on August 5, 2021. That date fell two months after the State Bureau of Investigation began examining a complaint about the officer.
The SBI arrested Olivares in September 2025. The original charges included two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation, three counts of second-degree, and three counts of third-degree. Warrants issued at the time alleged he used a 16-year-old girl to create videos showing sexual activity.
Olivares now faces a strict set of conditions to keep him out of prison. The suspended sentences hang over the eight-year probation period. Any breach of those terms could activate the prison time.
