Larrimor's, the designer clothing shop at 249 Fifth Ave., is clearing out its inventory after nearly nine decades in business. The going-out-of-business sale starts at 9 a.m. on Nov. 4 and will run until every item is sold. The store will close no later than the end of December.
Shoppers can find discounts ranging from 20% to 75% off all merchandise. This includes men's suits, sport coats, dress shirts, sportswear, and shoes, as well as women's clothing, outerwear, handbags, and fine jewelry. Brands on the racks include Zegna, Canali, Isaia, Peter Millar, Magnanni, L'Agence, Akris, Eileen Fisher, Staud, and Hammitt. New fall and winter deliveries will go straight to the sale floor. Store fixtures are also up for grabs, and all sales are final.
The store closed to the public from Nov. 1 to Nov. 3 to allow staff to mark down prices. Harry Slesinger and Larry Morris opened the business in 1939 in a 1,000-square-foot storefront inside the Union Trust Building. It operated from that location for more than seven decades. In 2010, the shop moved to its current space at One PNC Plaza.
The business has remained in the family for three generations. In 2006, Esquire magazine named it a "Best of Class" retailer. It was the only Pittsburgh store to receive that distinction. Co-owner Tom Michael said the decision ends an important chapter for the family. "We are incredibly grateful for the customers, employees, designers and community members who have made Larrimor's what it is today," Michael said. He added that the final sale offers customers a chance to find something special while the family says thank you.
Co-owner Lisa Slesinger noted that the store has dressed many Pittsburgh families across three generations. "The selection will never be better than it is on opening day," Slesinger said. She encouraged customers to visit early to find items they will enjoy for years to come.
Validated parking is available at the 3 PNC Plaza, Oliver, and K&L Gates Center garages for those visiting the sale.
