Amanda Dark, 41, sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head, a finding that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has classified as a homicide. The ruling establishes the manner of death for the New Britain resident, whose body was discovered inside a home on Roxbury Road on Tuesday morning.
Officers from the New Britain Police Department arrived at the residence at approximately 8:20 a.m. to investigate a report of a possible suicide. Upon entering the home, they located Dark in a bedroom. The initial call to the department suggested a single incident, but subsequent investigative steps pointed to a second location where the victim’s husband was found.
Police investigations determined that John Dark, 44, played a role in the events leading to his wife's death. He was located later in the day at the Silver Lake boat launch in Berlin. In that location, authorities found him dead inside a vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The separation of the two bodies across town marked a key development in the early stages of the inquiry.
The medical examiner's office confirmed that Dark died from the specific trauma to her head. This determination shifts the official record away from a potential suicide, aligning with the police finding that her husband was involved. The identification of the specific cause and manner of death provides the factual basis for the ongoing case.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths is continuing. Lieutenant Jared Barsaleau of the New Britain Police Department is the point of contact for the case and can be reached at (860) 826-3131. He is asking residents with information to forward it to the department to aid in closing the file.
