Tru-Form Construction of Black Hawk began the final phase of the Interstate 90 Exit 10 project in Spearfish on Monday. The contractor is completing a $1.3 million intersection improvement project for the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
Crews are installing a new paved U-turn area, referred to as a loon, to provide a safer turning point near the interchange. Work is also underway on a new median and turn lane along North Avenue. These changes require left turns from Old Highway 14 to be restricted. Northbound drivers on North Avenue cannot turn left onto Old Highway 14 during the construction period.
The Department of Transportation advises motorists needing access to Old Highway 14 to use Exit 8 as an alternate route. All entrance and exit ramps at Exit 10 remain open to traffic. New traffic signals are scheduled for installation at the eastbound off-ramp and North Avenue in January.
The project is on track to finish by November 20. Drivers are asked to reduce speed and monitor changing traffic patterns within the construction zone.
