Mujibullah Azizi must spend two decades in prison for the April 2024 abduction and rape of an 11-year-old girl in Arlington, Virginia. The sentence, handed down by the court, includes lifetime supervised probation and mandatory sex offender registration.

The incident began when the victim, who was 11 at the time, agreed to meet a teenage boy she had contacted on Snapchat. That boy arranged for Azizi to drive them to his apartment in Arlington, where the assault took place. Officials stated that DNA evidence connected Azizi to the crime, and he made statements acknowledging that sexual intercourse occurred.

Azizi pleaded guilty on August 6, 2026. As part of his sentencing, he is required to complete sex offender treatment and undergo evaluations for mental health and substance use. The court also barred him from contacting any minors and prohibited him from staying near places where children are present.

A permanent protective order was issued to stop Azizi from contacting the victim. The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney used the sentencing to urge other survivors to seek support and report incidents to law enforcement. The case highlights the risks associated with online interactions between minors and older individuals.

The victim connected with the teenager through a social media platform, a method of contact that prosecutors noted in their summary of events. Azizi’s legal team did not contest the findings of DNA evidence or his admission of intercourse. The sentence reflects the severity of the crime committed against a minor in a private residence.

No further appeals have been scheduled. Azizi will begin serving his term in prison after completing any pre-trial detention time. The protective order remains in effect indefinitely, ensuring a legal barrier between the defendant and the child.
