Ukrainian emergency services reported Friday that the death toll from a Russian airstrike on an aid distribution point has reached 50. The figure comes as search and rescue crews continue to work through the rubble in the village of Komyshuvakha, located in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Mykhailo Semikin, head of the state emergency service, stated on Telegram that the recovery effort had entered its fifth day. Officials said eight more bodies were pulled from the debris during the latest phase of operations.

The strike occurred on Monday, November 2. Ukrainian authorities said Russian forces targeted a former school building in the frontline village. At the time of the explosion, civilians were gathered at the site for a weekly humanitarian aid distribution. The attack marks one of the deadliest incidents against civilians in the ongoing conflict, which has continued for more than four and a half years.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, indicated that the Russian military hit an underground shelter while people were inside. The United Nations human rights mission in Ukraine reviewed the incident earlier this week. The mission stated that the strike likely violated international law.

The bombing happened shortly after the longest ceasefire between the warring nations ended in the southern Kherson region. The war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and displaced millions of residents. Diplomatic talks between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the United States, are scheduled to resume in Abu Dhabi next week.

The strike site remains the focal point of the recovery effort. Rescue teams have not yet completed their work at the location. The death toll of 50 stands as the official count provided by Kyiv's emergency services as of Friday.
