The Solano County District Attorney's Office filed murder charges against a 17-year-old accused of shooting seven people inside a Spirit Halloween store in California. Prosecutors announced the filing on Wednesday, seeking to try the teenager as an adult.
The office charged the teen with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Additional charges include three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and several weapons enhancements, according to a press release.
The shooting occurred on October 30. The attack killed 31-year-old Constance Hages, who was pregnant with her fifth child, and her unborn baby. Six other victims sustained injuries during the incident.
Hages was a mother of four. Her family created a fundraising page to cover funeral costs and support the children. "This heartbreaking loss has left behind four children, grieving parents, and a family trying to face a pain that words can barely hold," the family wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Police reported that four victims remained hospitalized as of Monday. A 19-year-old man is listed in critical condition. Three other patients, aged 16, 23, and 32, are in stable condition. Two additional victims, a 19-year-old and a 43-year-old, were treated and released from the hospital.
The accused teen made an initial appearance in juvenile court on Wednesday morning. The defendant remains held without bail.
